UNESCO World Heritage Sites I have visited

As I have mentioned on other pages, I have an interest in UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the world, and I am always excited when I find out that I can visit a new one.  Such a collection of unique places in the world!  I’ll add to this page as I continue my travels, so it will be a work in progress.  I’ll also update the featured photo to the latest new UNESCO site that I have been to, over time.

What is UNESCO?

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.

The UNESCO World Heritage List

Sites of outstanding universal value are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List if they meet at least one out of ten selection criteria. You can see the full list here which includes an interactive map of the world with all the current sites shown.

You can read about all the different sites and the reasons that they were included on the list. It is really very interesting and I always go to the list as a starting point for planning a visit to another country.
