Waiuku New Zealand

Waiuku is a charming little rural town that sits at the southern end of the Āwhitu Peninsula.  The town has several pleasant waterfront parks and recreation areas overlooking the shores of the tidal Waiuku river, which is an estuary that flows out of the Manukau Harbour.  Waiuku is just under an hour’s drive from Auckland.  I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful little town in July.  Being winter, it was cold and wet but I still managed to see some highlights in between the rain showers.

Southern Highlands Food and Wine Festival 2022

What a great time we had at the Southern Highlands Food and Wine Festival 2022!  The rain managed to hold off for a while, the event organisers managed to find enough straw to lay on the soggy ground so that we could walk around without looking like mud wrestling contestants, and we were treated to some very enjoyable musical entertainment.  Plus, did I mention there was Food AND Wine??

Ireland – Enjoy the Differences

One of the best things about travelling to different countries is that you get to see what things are like in other parts of the world.  As you travel to new places, you will usually find something that is done differently there, compared to the way it is done in your home town.  I’m always on the lookout for these differences and enjoy them when I find them.  It’s kind of like a cultural treasure hunt.   Here are some of the differences I discovered in Ireland, compared to the way things are in Australia.

Prague Astronomical Clock

Don’t you find beautiful custom-made clocks interesting?  Throughout history, the creation of a beautiful clock has been a skill and art form meticulously studied.  Master instructing apprentice, handing down secrets not to be shared with the competition.  Who could become the most renowned clock maker of their time?  Centuries ago, the creation of a unique work of art in the form of a beautiful clock was not just commissioned as a time measuring device.  These clocks were also seen as symbols of status.  A measure of the wealth or technological advancement of the owners or developers of the clock, in comparison to other clockmakers in other nations.  Which brings me to the Prague Astronomical Clock.

Eating Gluten-Free in Greece

Having had to change my diet and eliminate gluten for health reasons, I am always just a little concerned about eating out in places I haven’t been before.  So when I was preparing for my holiday in Greece, I did some research into the types of food, and usual methods of preparation for those dishes.  I wanted to be able to choose easily, and quickly, without causing any fuss.  The more I looked, the more confident I was that eating Gluten-Free in Greece was going to be fairly easy.
